Then I reinstalled my Novatel drivers (v1.5) and the modem started working. It seems that Apple WWAN is meant to work with Verizon, and they are not a telco in Australia, and if they were, they would not be my telco, so I got screwed on. Anyway its working now. Not sure if this will help you though.
